Lana 曾在访问中说过，When The World Was At War We Kept Dancing 这首歌是有关政治的，大概也不难猜想，2017年 Lust for Life 这张专辑发行时，美国所遇到的问题。
这样的情况会是美国的末日，甚至世界的末日吗？除了这两个问题，在歌曲中不断重复著，暗示著对于这样的美国总统统治下的担忧，另外， don’t make too much noise/ And don’t try to be funny 这两句其实也暗指某些不恰当的言论与讪笑，其实是对人的不尊重，甚至会造成威胁。
然而，点出美国所面临的问题，并非这首歌的重点。Lana 想表达的是，即使在这样的情况下，即使看似将面对一场混战，最重要的是不要因为这些政治人物的作为与言论而被禁声，反而是要愤而起身。多少年的历史下来，人们不也撑过了无数场战争吗？所以在这一场当中，也不应有人压抑自己。
