Lana 曾在訪問中說過，When The World Was At War We Kept Dancing 這首歌是有關政治的，大概也不難猜想，2017年 Lust for Life 這張專輯發行時，美國所遇到的問題。

這樣的情況會是美國的末日，甚至世界的末日嗎？除了這兩個問題，在歌曲中不斷重複著，暗示著對於這樣的美國總統統治下的擔憂，另外， don’t make too much noise/ And don’t try to be funny 這兩句其實也暗指某些不恰當的言論與訕笑，其實是對人的不尊重，甚至會造成威脅。

然而，點出美國所面臨的問題，並非這首歌的重點。Lana 想表達的是，即使在這樣的情況下，即使看似將面對一場混戰，最重要的是不要因為這些政治人物的作為與言論而被禁聲，反而是要憤而起身。多少年的歷史下來，人們不也撐過了無數場戰爭嗎？所以在這一場當中，也不應有人壓抑自己。
