The Innocence Mission 是 1980 年代成立的美国摇滚乐团，团员以一对夫妇Karen 及 Don Peris为中心，再加上鼓手及吉他手，歌曲主要由Karen Peris 所写。

一开始会听到这首歌是在电影《壁花男孩》(The Perks of Being a Wallflower) 中，Evensong 这首歌出现在学校的舞会上，那是男主角查理第一次带舞伴参加舞会，而女主角小珊却因为男友不想去高中舞会而落单，变成了wallflower。小珊因此而觉得难过，但她说“我并不怪他（男友）”，查理则说“如果你想来，他就应该陪你来。”就是这时播出了 Evensong，Evensong 的开头就有种回荡的感觉，配上舞会的灯光及男女主角这番话，有一种淡淡的哀愁。

其实这首歌的歌词在翻译时我也思考了很久，犹豫到底是想表达什么意思。有许多省略的主词，因此无法明确知道在讲哪个事物，如果有解释不明确的地方还请大家多包涵，也欢迎留言讨论。我认为歌词是想借由自然之母的伟大来对照人类的渺小。”evensong”这个字本来就有“赞美诗”的意思，所以我认为可以看成是赞美大自然的一首歌。歌词开头就说自己的心感到沉重，接着又提到barbed wire铁丝网，铁丝网仿佛是人类为了与大自然抗衡的发明，而微小脆弱的蝴蝶，竟飞到铁丝网上，代表着大自然（温暖包容）与人类（冷酷自私）的对立。看到这景象，原本心事重重的叙事者顿时感到惬意，而忘了原本的忧愁。最后一段，提到了生命的结束，以此显现人类的渺小与生命的无常；等待不知道会不会赴约的友人，则是透过“等待”来凸显“时间”的存在，人在时间的洪流下，显得微不足道。

整首歌虽然没有强烈的节奏感，但反而在缓慢回荡的旋律中展现了这首歌的特色，是The Perks of Being a Wallflower 中的经典之一，推荐给大家。
