The Lumineers

在读这篇歌曲分析之前，希望大家先读读故事的前半部，也就是 The Lumineers 的 Sleep on the Floor 还有 Angela 这两首歌。 Sleep on the Floor 、Angela、Cleopatra 三首歌曲，诉说著同一个女人青春、中年、年老的三个阶段，当然，影片中旅馆 The Three Ladies 指的就是这三个女人。MV 很巧妙地把三段故事连接在一起。

在 Angela 的结尾，女主角离开了小镇与家、离开了旅馆并搭上了 Cleopatra 的出租车。 Cleopatra 是年老时的她。从歌词中，我们可以知道 Cleopatra 离了婚，孩子也大了，她独自过著开出租车的生活。并且也在歌词的第一段说明了年轻时她拒绝与男友一同离开的原因。那时，她因为父亲的去世而悲痛，无法下定决心答应男友的求婚、无法与男友一起抛下她的小镇生活。而在男友独自离开后，她便一直惦记着他，她的心从此就冰封了，即使后来她找了个人嫁，那也绝不是真爱，她再也开心不起来。

歌名用 Cleopatra 埃及艳后这个名字，或许是因为埃及艳后与女主角一样，都有着一段不幸的爱情。”I was young and an actress”，说她是演员，指的是在人生中她必须戴着各种面具，好应付不同的场合。就像她扮演了一个好女儿的角色，在父亲过世时，没有冲动与爱人私奔，而是留在家里守着家人与家园。而她也扮演好了母亲的角色，虽然在 Angela 中，她抛下了她的婚姻，但在 Cleopatra 影片中可知，她与儿子和前夫还保持着正常的联系。这一生，她戴着面具，辛苦地扮演别人，不从真正做过自己，因为少了她真正爱的人，她就像失了魂一样，她不知道还能追寻什么。在影片 3 分 17 秒的地方，女主角再次分身。一部分的她跟随丈夫（前夫？）进屋，另一部分的她则独自离开。她究竟选择了什么样的生活。我们无法知道，但可以肯定的是，自从她错过她的真爱以后，她就一直惦记着他。
