Reason Why 曾在多部影集中出现过，多半是当作分手情歌，不过其实这首歌背后，并不只是一段普通的爱情而已。这首歌除了关乎 Rachael Yamagata 与前男友 James 的恋情，以及他们的乐团 Bumpus 。 Rachael Yamagata 是歌手兼音乐创作人，她也为自己的乐团写歌，但她想尝试的新曲风却不被团员所看好，甚至还遭到嘲讽。因此， Rachael Yamagata 退团单飞，同时也与同在乐团里的男友分手。

单飞后，前男友取代她的位子，成了乐团唯一的主唱，也重新演绎了不少她从前写的歌。 Rachael Yamagata 即便是离开了他，却又因自己的音乐而无法真正离开他，收音机、杂志上，处处都是他的消息。
