虽然这已经是 Lana Del Rey 几年前的歌了，一直到最近才好好把歌词重头到尾仔细听一遍，总觉得像找到了遗失很久的宝一样，有种既熟悉又陌生的情怀。 This Is What Makes Us Girls 可以说是把 Lana 典型的复古调调展现得淋漓尽致。一首歌诉说一个年轻女孩的故事，歌词中多处似乎就是 Lana 的人生写照，听着听着我们也在不知不觉中回到了旧时代的中学生活。

Lana Del Rey 的少女时期曾因为酗酒、嗑药等事件而惹上麻烦、被迫离开她原本的朋友、被送到寄宿学校。许多人对他们疯狂行径的看法就像歌词中的 Teachers said we’d never make it out alive 一样，认为她们只是玩玩，继续疯狂下去只是活在幻想中，无法在真实世界存活。然而，对于一个 16 岁的女孩来说，恋爱、舞会、玩乐就是活着的意义。We don’t look for heaven and we put our love first，她们重视的，并不是道德规范以及死后何去何从，而是眼前的当下。就如同 Lana 在 Video Games 中说的 “Heaven is a place on earth with you”，所谓“天堂”就是与爱人同在，爱情是所有少女的第一顺位。即使脱离了甜蜜的 16 岁，成熟的女人也会因为爱、因为在所爱的男人面前而再次体验到作为一个“女孩”的青涩、青春。但不幸的是，就算有那么一瞬间，我们觉得回到了少女时代，事实上我们却再也回不去了。Lana 在歌词最后一句所说的 Crying cause I know I’m never coming back，我想或许有双重的意义吧，她再也回不去与中学的好友疯狂玩乐的时光，就像所又过了青春年华的女子，再也回不去那个纯真年代。

下面附上同一首歌的另一个版本，我觉得加上强烈的节奏感与歌词还满搭的。此外，这个 MV 的剪辑我也十分喜欢，尤其是 MV 开头剪了 1999 年著名电影《美国心玫瑰情》（American Beauty）的片段，既少女又怀旧，作为这首歌的影片再适合也不过。
