Sad Girl 是观点很有趣的一首歌，以一个情妇的角度出发，歌曲开头就先表明大家对自己的嫌弃、指责。身为别人的情妇，她自然受到许多异样眼光看待，但她不顾别人的鄙夷，说这群指责她的人们是 fool 傻子，只因为他们没见过他爱的男人，才不懂她为何愿意做他的情妇。然而，或许连叙事者自己也不相信自己的做法是对的吧，到了副歌部分，她开始怀疑，她开始承认当情妇的悲哀。”On the side” 这个词一再出现，表示自己就像个饰品一样，只是多余的加分物品，即使少了她，她所爱的男人也无所差别、不会为她的离去而难过。

副歌之后的歌词从一开始的”I’m a sad girl”变成了” I’m a bad girl”，是因为她爱着这男人，但不愿承认她作为情妇的痛苦，所以说服自己是心甘情愿这么做的，说服自己是个坏女人，专门勾引有妇之夫。如此，当个勾引人的坏女人，或许就能减轻他得不到爱人、必须当情妇陪睡的痛苦。最后 Bridge 的部分，”Watch what you say to me/ Careful who you’re talking to” 是以坏女人的口吻，甚至带点调情的味道说话。唯有说服自己正在使坏、勾引他的爱人，她才有办法忘记作为陪衬品的悲伤。
