歌詞敘述一個人面臨了艱難的抉擇，是關於放手或挽留，歌詞裡並沒有明確表示到底哪一個才是比較好或比較正向的決定，只是給了「放手讓他自由，成長，茁壯」和「緊抓不放，讓他凋零，死去」，雖然這樣看起來，後者似乎是個不好的結果，但我想，無論最後選擇了哪一個，都是很令人傷心的吧!

生命中充滿各式各樣的抉擇，當我們決定抓住一個，勢必就會放棄另一個，選擇的那一個，不一定是對我們最好的，也不一定是自己最喜歡的，放棄的那一個，也不一定是不在乎的，做出抉擇這件事本來就是殘酷的，rust or gold，也許一念之間，就會不小心做出改變所有人命運的決定。擁有選擇權的人，或許看似權力很大，能夠隨心所欲，但當無論選擇哪一邊，都會有人傷心，意味著一個人成為gold，另一人就會成為rust，看似大權在握，其實是走投無路，被迫作出一個不可能有好結局的決定。
