Paradise City 是 Guns N’ Roses 乐团的经典代表作之一，叙述一个美国少年对这个社会，对这个国家的无奈与绝望。他相信，在这个世界上的某个地方，存在着一个所谓的天堂之城。那是一个美好的乌托邦，没有不公不义，没有流落街头的乞丐，只有绿地和美人。但这终究只是他的向往而已。

第二段所叙述的街头流浪生活，或许也是 Guns N’ Roses 乐团刚起步时所面对的窘境。贫民窟与乞讨都是日常生活的一部分，人们总教导著自己，只要努力就能翻身，穷人也能变富人。但并不是每个人都能达成美国梦。在这个充满梦想的国家，除了梦想之外，充斥着更多残酷的事实。还没发达的人，只能像个重罪犯般服刑，过著没有尊严的生活。连单纯想要一点新鲜空气都是一种奢求。叙事者对这个国家失去信心，他不知道，谁可以相信，什么才是真正该追求的梦。

在歌词的最后一段，则以美国队长这个英雄人物的堕落，来比喻美国社会价值观的堕落，人们不再崇尚正义，不再崇尚梦想。而那些在乎正义的反而成了人们耻笑的对象。他们所在乎的，只有名和利，仿佛有了名和利，才能开始谈梦想。

一首主题沉重的歌曲，以摇滚乐的形式演出，仿佛在说：算了吧，没有人救得了这社会，就听听音乐沉沦下去吧！
