Birdy的声音除了很有疗愈能力之外，唱起悲伤的歌曲也一样瞬间让人心碎。这首 Without  a Word 讲的是离别，无论是亲人或是恋人或是朋友，离别总是令人感伤惆怅，但最心痛的不是离别本身，而是对方否认了彼此之间的一切，仿佛过去的所有都是谎言，顿时一刀两断。

歌词中，虽然叙述者说 “Yes I’ll leave you without a word/ Without a word” ，看似已经放手，但内心却是说不尽的不舍。就算分离是命运支配，而非出自己意，她仍然希望这是个圆满的道别，一个happy ending，而不是因为道别就抹杀从前的回忆。毕竟，如果我们得不到深爱的人，回忆就是我们仅存的了，连回忆也没有，那么我们真的什么也不剩了。
