其實光聽歌名就已經喜歡上這首歌了，只是再仔細看了歌詞以後，覺得和我一開始以為的意思有一點小小差距。原本以為是那種想要讓自己消失不見的意思，但歌詞好像隱約透露出，要消失不見是一件非常容易的事，只要一不小心，人、事就會變遷，曾經有過的感覺也不復存在。

第一段的男主角看起來好像是一個很穩重的依靠，但是從“All of the guys tell me lies but you don’t”到“pretend that you’re still here”，便看出他不是不說謊，他只是心已經不在這裡了，根本沒有說謊的必要。那個自己曾經信任、依靠的男人，就這樣不知不覺間消失，回不來了，取而代之的是一個漠不關心的人。第二段的男主角是個很努力向上的人，為了夢想、為了追求而歷盡滄桑，就在你這樣以為的時候，歌詞卻又說“To forget the things they fear”，他努力不是因為夢想，而是因為不想被恐懼所吞噬。緊接在後的chorus也從原本的“this is how to disappear”變成“this is how they disappear”，這裡的they是指「恐懼、害怕」，只有在你全心專注於目標時，恐懼才能消失，有點像是被逼迫而努力的感覺。

Bridge的這一段已經是多年以後，回首過去，事情已經有許多不同。主角深知人事物的消逝是多麽輕而易舉，所以他對著愛人說，自己永遠不會離去，不必擔心，一切都不會改變。

或許還有其他解讀方法，不過我覺得這樣看這首歌還滿浪漫的，最後，當然也要放一下 Radiohead 的 How to Disappear Completely。
