Damien Rice

第一次聽 Damien Rice 的這首 Cheers Darlin’ 就覺得曲風十分特別，有點像歌唱，又有點像喃喃自語，有點像抱怨，但在哀傷中又帶著感慨與愛。像是一首指彈給自己、而不是唱給別人聽的藍調，表面顯露的淡淡哀愁蓋不過內心溢於言表的苦痛。

敘事者深愛著一個女孩，但或許因為年少無知、不知把握，又或者單純地因為害羞、不善表達，而錯過了對的人，反倒是另一個男人帶走了他深愛的女孩。這要他情何以堪？他早遇見了他的公主，卻因沒有表達、沒有把握，而錯失一輩子的幸福。而現在他只能眼睜睜著別人牽著他的女孩進教堂，只能在一旁默默祝福、又或者默默怨恨這男人，甚至默默怨恨自己。

What am I darlin’? 他自問，他在這女孩眼中，是什麼樣的存在呢？是一個存在過去的人物而已嗎？是餐後甜點嗎？還是在這女孩眼中，他不曾是對的人，只是一段錯誤的緣分呢？
