Lana Del Rey 的這首 Pretty When You Cry 收錄在 2014 年的 Ultraviolence 專輯中，剛開始聽這首歌以為只是一般的情歌，說一個女孩哭著也很美、笑著也很美，但最近重複聽著聽著，才發覺背後好像有更深的涵義。

歌詞就如同典型的 Lana Del Rey 歌詞中會出現的情節，女主角深愛一個並不愛她的男人，只是把她當作需要時的玩物。那個男人享受玩弄這段感情，看著一個女人為自己付出一切。初初相識時用甜言蜜語擄獲她的心，後來卻一再離開她，丟下她一個人繼續愛著他。附歌中的 “Because I’m pretty when I cry”說得並不只是表面上的她哭者也很美，背後想表達的是女主角的自我安慰。她不願意承認自己被這管感情弄得傷痕壘壘，不願意面對自己心痛的這個事實，所以欺騙自己，說自己哭了是因為那男人曾說過她哭著也很美，而不是因為難過心痛才哭了。她自認是一個很堅強的人，不會輕易認輸、哭泣，但面對愛人的離去，她說 “I can’t do it, I can’t do it/ But you do it well”，她沒辦法像他所愛的男子一樣輕易放手。於是，她選擇繼續活在從前美好的回憶裡，”I’ve got much more than that/ Like my memories, I don’t need that”，只要她還記得他從前的好，那麼此刻他不在身邊也無所謂了。
