首先要感謝 LineDay 上的網友介紹這首歌給我，讓我有機會接觸不同曲風和不熟悉的音樂，我聽完這首歌並讀了幾遍歌詞後，也覺得是一首十分有意思的歌，分享給大家。

Portugal. The Man是一個來自阿拉斯加的搖滾樂團。聽到這首歌的第一個感覺非常陰森，有種黑黑的，但又不十分明顯的黑色氛圍。這首歌的歌詞主要是敘述一個對生命失望透頂，而決定結束生命的人，不過歌詞大部分非常隱晦，除了”no one said no one said no one said it’d be suicide”這一句講明了suicide之外，整首歌若不仔細讀不太容易看出什麼自殺的訊息。

歌詞一開始是敘事者的人生顛峰，但卻漸漸下滑，跌入谷底。雖然他已盡力，好不容易站在巔峰，內心卻仍感覺無法達到他人和這世界對他的期望(I’m just the shadow of a bigger man)。
“No one said that I aim to please” 就更進一步說明，自己又不是為了取悅別人而活的，所以即便知道結束生命會給別人帶來痛苦，他也無所顧忌。至於活不下去的原因，歌詞中有說到”there are things that you cant live without/ but money, it’s sad but true, would surely top that list”，所以看來金錢問題是他主要的痛苦來源。敘事者看起來並不是一位徹底的絕望者，他仍然相信未來會慢慢好轉，會有漸入佳境的日子，但他承受不住當下以及長期以來累積的苦，”I won’t wait though my time may come”指的是自己已沒有耐心再等好日子的到來。

是一首聽了很難過的歌曲，我們活在一個物質與金錢的世界，想要脫離這牢籠，還能怎麼樣呢？世界固然有美的有光明的一面，但有時我們的生活充斥黑暗，我們的雙眼已承受不了光明……
