Birdy的聲音除了很有療癒能力之外，唱起悲傷的歌曲也一樣瞬間讓人心碎。這首 Without  a Word 講的是離別，無論是親人或是戀人或是朋友，離別總是令人感傷惆悵，但最心痛的不是離別本身，而是對方否認了彼此之間的一切，彷彿過去的所有都是謊言，頓時一刀兩斷。

歌詞中，雖然敘述者說 “Yes I’ll leave you without a word/ Without a word” ，看似已經放手，但內心卻是說不盡的不捨。就算分離是命運支配，而非出自己意，她仍然希望這是個圓滿的道別，一個happy ending，而不是因為道別就抹殺從前的回憶。畢竟，如果我們得不到深愛的人，回憶就是我們僅存的了，連回憶也沒有，那麼我們真的什麼也不剩了。
