这首歌的内容就如同它的歌名一样黑暗，讲的是一个自暴自弃的人。他付出了许多，但却没有得到应得的成果，经历了许多挫折后，他开始感到徬徨，开始困惑，认为或许再怎么努力也没有用。

我觉得真正令人难过的，并不是某件事的失败本身，而是经历太多失败过后，我们会开始怀疑自己的价值。就如同歌词中所说的，他开始觉得自己活的是条贱命，觉得自己毫无价值，甚至希望有人叫他放弃，以免再多的尝试带来更多的悲伤。他并不是完全自我放弃，心中还是有个小小的声音，告诉自己，再赌一次，或许再努力一点会成功，或许下一场战役会凯旋而归，但这希望的烛光实在太微弱，才一点燃，马上被长久累积的心灰意冷给熄灭。有个更大的声音告诉他，别试了，惹得一身腥，不如早点投降，当个输家就够了。
