Lana Del Rey 的第六张专辑Norman Fucking Rockwell没有辜负众人的期待，一如往常呈现出她典型的风格。前几天这首歌发布时，一听就浑身鸡皮疙瘩，怎么会有办法把一首歌唱得如此悲伤又美丽呢？

Hope is a dangerous thing中提到两个人物，一是第一段的Slim Aarons，他是知名摄影师，专门替社会名流拍照。第二是副歌里的Sylvia Plath，她是美国作家兼女权运动人士，患有心理疾病，后来自杀身亡。

Black narcissist

这首歌很大程度上是对Sylvia Plath致敬，包括副歌提到的穿着睡衣到处游荡，这是在说Sylvia Plath笔下的一个人物，而这样的行为让他被视为患有精神病（或许就是副歌第二段说的反社会份子），其他反常的征兆还包括用血在墙上写字等等。Lana认为某一部份的自己也是如此疯狂，而她把自己疯狂的一面称为black narcissist ，直译就是黑暗的自恋狂，其实指的就是忧郁并以自我为中心的那个她。她心中忧郁的这一面常常与另一个所谓“正常”的她打仗，她总是处于挣扎的状态，正如同歌词Bridge的部份所说的，那个黑暗的她总是没有守好心防，让可怕的怪物闯进来骚扰“正常”的她。

歌名来源

歌名叫作Hope is a dangerous thing for a woman like me to have-but i have it，有可能是源自电影《刺激1995》里的对白，其中一句台词是“Let me tell you something my friend. Hope is a dangerous thing. Hope can drive a man insane.”（“希望”是一件很危险的事，“希望”可能会让人发疯）。这首歌中可以看到，作者显然并不快乐，或许正是因为曾经抱有希望，让她在失望以后倍感失落。

歌词Verse 2中也提到不少Lana的童年经历，像是她青少年时期曾严重酗酒，被父母送到寄宿学校，而她离开学校后并没有回到家与父母同住，而是去住在其他亲戚家，这也显示出她与家人复杂的关系。
