Lana Del Rey 的第六張專輯Norman Fucking Rockwell沒有辜負眾人的期待，一如往常呈現出她典型的風格。前幾天這首歌發佈時，一聽就渾身雞皮疙瘩，怎麼會有辦法把一首歌唱得如此悲傷又美麗呢？

Hope is a dangerous thing中提到兩個人物，一是第一段的Slim Aarons，他是知名攝影師，專門替社會名流拍照。第二是副歌裡的Sylvia Plath，她是美國作家兼女權運動人士，患有心理疾病，後來自殺身亡。

Black narcissist

這首歌很大程度上是對Sylvia Plath致敬，包括副歌提到的穿著睡衣到處遊蕩，這是在說Sylvia Plath筆下的一個人物，而這樣的行為讓他被視為患有精神病（或許就是副歌第二段說的反社會份子），其他反常的徵兆還包括用血在牆上寫字等等。Lana認為某一部份的自己也是如此瘋狂，而她把自己瘋狂的一面稱為black narcissist ，直譯就是黑暗的自戀狂，其實指的就是憂鬱並以自我為中心的那個她。她心中憂鬱的這一面常常與另一個所謂「正常」的她打仗，她總是處於掙扎的狀態，正如同歌詞Bridge的部份所說的，那個黑暗的她總是沒有守好心防，讓可怕的怪物闖進來騷擾「正常」的她。

歌名來源

歌名叫作Hope is a dangerous thing for a woman like me to have-but i have it，有可能是源自電影《刺激1995》裡的對白，其中一句台詞是“Let me tell you something my friend. Hope is a dangerous thing. Hope can drive a man insane.”（「希望」是一件很危險的事，「希望」可能會讓人發瘋）。這首歌中可以看到，作者顯然並不快樂，或許正是因為曾經抱有希望，讓她在失望以後倍感失落。

歌詞Verse 2中也提到不少Lana的童年經歷，像是她青少年時期曾嚴重酗酒，被父母送到寄宿學校，而她離開學校後並沒有回到家與父母同住，而是去住在其他親戚家，這也顯示出她與家人複雜的關係。

在翻譯時其實遇到滿多不肯定的地方，我覺得Hope is a dangerous thing for a woman like me to have不只是一首歌，在許多手法上更像是一首詩，所以充滿了比喻和象徵。在敘述上當然也會有滿多跳躍的地方，不是很容易理解，以上只是我依照查到的資料，再加上我自己的解讀做出的詮釋。不過我想，聽音樂很多時候都是這樣，即使你無法逐一解釋這些字句，但你好像明白作者想說什麼，那也就夠了。
