最近已經介紹了不少 Daughter 女兒樂團的歌曲，相信大家對這個樂團的風格不陌生。這次介紹的 Candles 也如同先前的歌曲，唱出戀人心中的有苦難言，不過更加隱晦，更加深沈。

Candles 說的是兩個無法成為戀人的人，她願意為他付出一切，但他卻只把她當作是慾望的對象。從”You’re too old to be so shy”、”Just a young heart confusing my mind”、”Wide-eyed, like we’re in a crime scene” 等句子，可以大略推測他帶領她一步步走進性與情慾的世界。而她只是個涉世未深的年輕女子，對一切好奇、對一切困惑，面對眼前的新奇，她感到害羞、感到罪惡，卻無從拒絕。

“I only bring the heat/ Company under cover/ Filling space in your sheets, in your sheets” 說明了歌曲中男人對這段感情的態度，他不當她是一個戀人，頂多始能說是性的伴侶，用來填補無人相伴的夜晚。而她即使知道對方並不認真，因為是第一次感受到愛，愛得太用力、甚至委屈了自己。

歌名 Candles 說的，除了在夜裡纏綿時床邊的燭光，它指的也是熱戀時的火苗。歌中的女子，就是因為這火苗，才願意相信愛，願意付出，但同時，這也是傷害了她、有可能將她燃燒殆盡的火焰。火，可以讓人生天亦可讓人入地獄，如同愛一般。
